Coherent manipulation and quantum phase interference in a fullerene-based electron triplet molecular qutrit

High spin magnetic molecules are promising candidates for quantum information processing because they intrinsically have multiple sublevels storage and computational operations. However, due to their susceptibility the environment limitation from selection rule, arbitrary control of state a multilevel system on molecular electron basis has not been realized. Here we exploit photoexcited triplet C70 as qutrit. After was initialized by photoexcitation, prepared it into representative three-level superposition states characteristic qutrit, measured density matrices, showed interference phases in superposition. The pattern is further interpreted map evolution through time under different conditions.
